A Venturer takes part in a programme suitable for young people from age 14 to 18. Venturers are responsible for their own programmes. Ideally the programmes would include a range of adventurous, vocational, social and spiritual activities that extend the Venturers and develop their self confidence, leadership, team and life skills. A progressive award scheme enables Venturer Scouts to extend their range of skills and earn certificates that lead towards achieving the Queens Scout Award and/or the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. The Venturer section objectives are to participate in an adventurous training programme which will equip them for the safe enjoyment of the outdoors. To build self esteem and confidence while having fun and enjoyment. To develop leadership and inter-personal skills. To undertake new interests and constructive leisure activities. To test their values and opinions, and to make informed choices. To encourage voluntary participation and empowerment. To take responsibility for their own actions and contribute to the local and national community. To acquire life skills, learn about current issues and to explore spiritual development. Venturer Scouts usually meet one evening a week for about 2 hours as well as occasional weekends for major activities including National Camping Events. The St Martins Venturers meet on Monday nights from 6.45pm. For further details on St Martins venturers please email Barry Wrack barry@sew-eurodrive.co.nz
